Having kicked off the season with a 4 day Easter trip with the Southend young carers, we welcomed aboard a group of young adult carers who travelled up from West Sussex to Maldon for a weekend’s sailing along the Blackwater Estuary at the end of May. It was a trip eagerly anticipated by the carers and it proved a fantastic weekend. They were great company and we, the Volharding crew, really got a sense that they embraced everything the sailing experience has to offer – the sailing, the socialising and the rest and relaxation.

We were delighted to receive such comments from the carers as “Thank you so much… for the experience, it was great fun and I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say that”.

The staff that came along on the trip also had good things to report back to us: “they appreciated many things about the weekend… it was a break from their caring routine, the chance to get involved in something new and different, and the wonderful peace and quiet of being at sea away from the world. Above all they liked the camaraderie of the group.
