Whats involved with an open day?

Each boat has a plaque explaining its history (most of them are around 100 years old), and residents are around to answer questions about living onboard.

Don’t be shy with the questions, we’ve heard most of them before….Do you have electricity/internet/TV? Does it move? Why did you decide to move onto a boat? etc.

Once you’re finished seeing the boats relax in the cafe with a tea/coffee and slice of cake; try your hand at knot tying on the rope board; or attempt an activity sheet.

Open Days this Year

Hermitage Moorings will hopefully be open to the public from 11:00 – 16:00 in March June & September on the following weekends (usually in the 2nd half of the month).

  • March  21st & 22nd 2026
  • June  27th & 28th 2026
  • Sept  19th & 20th 2026

The September weekend usually coordinates with London Open House.

Other Events at Hermitage

There are “Repair Cafes” planned for the following dates. They are held in the afternoon (see below for hours) and offer a drop-in opportunity to get help or share knowledge about fixing household items. People who own boats are usually adept at this skill, out of necessity!
